Marriage Choice of Immigrants in Russia: Main Characteristics and Relationship with Integration
Abstract
The article shows features of the choice of spouses by immigrants from the CIS, Ukraine and Georgia in Russia, as well as the relationship of marriage choice to integration of foreign citizens in Russian society. The empirical basis of the study was sociological surveys of immigrants conducted by the Institute of Sociology of the Federal Scientific Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2017 and 2020 (8577 and 700 respondents respectively). The preservation of the ethno-cultural distance between immigrants and the host Russian society is shown, since the “importing” of spouses from their homeland remains overwhelming. During the study, two groups of respondents were identified: whose spouses have and do not have Russian citizenship. The author analyzes the integration parameters of these groups and comes to the conclusion that the former are better integrated into the host society. Particular attention is paid to cultural integration. It is shown that the choice of Russians as spouses contributes to the formation of interethnic trust and a sense of belonging to the host society (all-Russian identity) among immigrants, as well as more modernized values, such as gender equality and personal freedom. At the same time, it is concluded that mixed marriages of immigrants and Russians are not associated with cultural assimilation, they should be considered as a process of counter movement of their cultures.

Dynamics of Reproductive Attitudes of Adult Fertile Women in St. Petersburg (2011–2021)
Abstract
The article deals with the 2011- 2021dynamics of the reproductive attitudes of adult fertile women living in St.-Petersburg, including 3 preferred numbers of children measured (ideal, desired and expected numbers). The survey results based on telephone interviews with this group’s representatives showed the effects of the information influence as an instrument of public demographic policy over the period. On the one hand, positive effect is stated: the average expected number of children has increased. However, this happened because of the contribution of women aged 30-44. The main conclusions present also negative trends: an increase in percentage of women focused on childlessness, a deterioration in attitudes towards marriage registration, a continuing increase in the average age which St.-Petersburg women believe is the best for childbearing (both the first and the last). Problems with having more children, according to women’s reviews, were ranked. The survey shows that the stimulating effect of social support to families with children (maternity capital, etc.) remains limited. The women’s self-evaluation shows a deteriorating trend in their reproductive health.

Socio-psychological state of the Vologda region population in crisis periods: socio-structural characteristics
Abstract
The purpose of the work is to study the psychological state of the Vologda Oblast population. The method is a sociological survey of the Vologda Oblast population (quota sample, N = 1500). The time interval captures the pre-pandemic period, the pandemic situation of 2020-2021 and the post-pandemic period (2022). The study confirms the hypothesis that the social situation during this time period was of a pronounced stressful nature, which was reflected in the increased symptoms of mental health disorders of the population, a decrease in life satisfaction. The dynamics of assessments of the psychological state of the regional community suggests, on the one hand, that adaptation processes are underway. However, there are social groups that adapt rather slowly, most likely due to lack of resources. It is shown that the prevalence of symptoms of mental health disorders differs in socio-demographic groups. In crisis conditions, age and financial situation have the greatest impact on the psychological well-being of the population of the Vologda Oblast. The novelty of the study lies in the expansion of empirical data on the psychological state of the regional community.

Digitalization of Psychological Help: Factors and Trends (the case of St. Petersburg)
Abstract
The article discusses St. Petersburg residents’ attitudes and practices to receiving psychological help via Internet. The growth of online psychological help popularity seems to be expected due to accelerated digitalization of Russian society and psychological online services development. The aim of the study is to identify socio-demographic predictors affecting prevalence of distant psychological assistance among St. Petersburg residents. The study was conducted using quantitative strategy, a telephone survey (CATI) was applied (N=1200). As for data analysis, linear and correlation analysis were employed as well as regression modeling. Findings reveal that the practice of seeking psychological help was widespread (35% of St. Petersburg residents). At the same time, almost ¼ of them received remote assistance. In 2022, a drastic growth of the need for psychological assistance is noticeable. The study showed that the use of digital practices in psychological help is mainly influenced by social predictors: age, presence of minor children, external stigmatization by a social environment. However, the stigmatization phenomenon seems to be ambivalent and cannot be used as a key predictor for the choice of distant assistance. Our conclusions urge further elaboration of factorial study and broader replacement of the stigma concept by more relevant and expanded theoretical models explaining pathways of psychological help seeking.

Development Vectors of Interviewing Children: Inclusion, Trust, Agency
Abstract
In this article, we will consider how the modern project of childhood, developed within the framework of the new sociology of childhood, forms a methodological framework for methodological rules and techniques in the development of empirical research methods using the example of interviewing children. Approaches to the understanding of childhood, described in theoretical works, influenced the development of the method. On the other hand, field work made it possible to open up the children’s world, as was done, for example, in the Chicago school of the first wave. Recognition of the plurality of childhood in the global world, on the one hand, gives rise to many unique practices of field work, on the other hand, creates the ground for the development of common ethical and methodological approaches and principles. The second part of the article presents the systematization of these principles at different stages of field work and, in particular, the application of the interview method and the ethical aspects of its implementation: the creation of a child-friendly toolkit, informed consent and the creation of trusting relationships, the dynamics of the interview situation, post-field relations, data analysis and representation of the world of childhood in scientific articles and political documents. In the final part of the article, we will outline the vectors for further development of the interview method and field practices for studying children.

The Social Role Mastering of the Patient during Childhood
Abstract
The article analyzes the body of social sciences and humanities knowledge about the process and results of mastering patient’s role in childhood. A definition is offered of a minor patient role as a transitive state of behavior for the development of medical-preventive and medical-therapeutic actions aimed at sustaining one's health. The problems of normative institutionalization and habituation, as well as objectification of such practices for the child are discussed. Basing on a study of modern childhood events impact on the development of independence and growing up, conclusions were made about the importance of role-playing training by way of practicing routine everyday activities: performing medical manipulations on one’s own body at home in case of illness and visiting a doctor. A correlation was found between the age of mastering the elements of this role in the process of socialization and the gender of the respondents, the type/composition of the parental family, its wealth, place of residence and medical infrastructure. In conclusion, the necessity is substantiated to study childhood socialization process for the formation of healthy adult members of society leading a correct lifestyle, and self-preserving behavior of people with disabilities.

”Silence Game” as a Form of Social Interaction
Abstract
The article examines the structure of interaction, which is formed in a children's playful game – silence game. The place and role of silence in this interaction is analyzed. The conditions for the possibility of silence as a game are determined. The silence game is considered at the micro level of social life as a game situation that exists within certain spatiotemporal framework and structures interaction with the help of formal and informal rules of the game. The microstructure of the silence game is explored with the help of concepts developed in the sociology of everyday life, frame analysis and ethnomethodology. In accordance with the traditions of these areas of sociological thought, special attention is paid to the relationship between the «game» and «everyday reality», in other words, the issue of «embedding» the game in a continuous stream of social interactions of actors participating in the game and individuals observing it by «layering» (framing), switching between «regions of experience» or routine activities of participants to maintain social order.

Individual and Generational Futures in the Urban Youth Narratives in St. Petersburg
Abstract
The focus of the article is on urban educated young people's perceptions of individual and generational futures. Drawing on perspectives from the sociology of transition to adulthood, the organization of biographies and the generational approach, qualitative interviews collected in 2020 and 2022 with St Petersburg residents aged 19-25 were analyzed. The study showed that socio-political events lead to a transformation of the generational narrative. The discourse of a bright generation, open to the future, is replaced by heterogeneous types of interpretation of the perspectives of one's own life and the generation as a whole. Three key narrative modes have been identified in which life experiences have been linked to representations of life perspectives: an 'absent future', an 'adaptive future' and an 'normalised future'. As the process of generational change is incomplete, this study captures some moments of dynamic change and raises new questions rather than providing final answers.

Three Dimensions of Adulthood: Freedom, Responsibility, and Care
Abstract
This paper focuses on the specifics of Russian youth’ transition to adulthood. Transition to adulthood is a theoretical construct at the heart of the relevant discussion, however, its specifics in the Russian context remain underresearched. Through critically reflecting on neoliberal and gender perspectives of contextualizing the transition to adulthood, we pay attention to both individual and collective aspects of it. Based on 30 in-depth semi-structured interviews with residents of St. Petersburg aged 18-43, we demonstrate which subjective markers of adulthood are the key to constructing an image of an adult. The analysis was done on the results of the project “Transition to adulthood among Russian youth in the 21st century: generational analysis” carried out within the HSE Program of Fundamental Research in 2020-2022. Our empirically developed categories of freedom, responsibility, and care as well as their configurations in traditional and alternative images of adulthood pose an interest for understanding the specifics of Russian youth’ emotionally saturated transition to adulthood.

Corrective Labor Colony ‘Perm‑36’ in the Memory of Neighbouring Villages Residents
Abstract
Conceptually the article is built upon cultural trauma theory. The study, based on a qualitative analysis of interviews conducted in the late 1990s, reveals specific distinctions of the collective memory of villagers in the proximity of a former corrective labor colony for political detainees in Perm Krai, on the site of which the Memorial Museum and Reserve of the Political Repression History "Perm-36" currently works. The interviewers found out that the locals refuse to play the role of witnesses to the colony’s life, and that it exists in their memory rather as an alien and non-transparent object. Therefore, formally speaking about detainees, local residents actually talk about themselves, creating an image of their own life with forced labor, everyday hardships and shortages, which, in some historical periods, did not differ much from life in the labor camps. By contrast, the colony is represented in their collective memory as a well-organized and rich enterprise, and the life of detainees looks like deserving envy. Working there in the eyes of the local residents is sometimes associated with the possibility to improve one’s labor conditions and to move up the social ladder. The few relatively detailed narratives, most likely, originate from mass media of the early 1990s, when the topic of Soviet repression was broadly discussed. Most of the collective farmers view the museumification of the colony as meaningless, considering it a fraud and a waste of money. Exhibits of the memorial museum, where their vision is not presented, are seen by the locals as an encroachment on their own history. Encouraged by the interviewers to talk about the colony that is unimportant for them, villagers try to narrate about themselves, denying that they are "witnesses" to anything. These particular cases discussed in the article demonstrate that entire social groups (for example, the peasantry) are excluded from the national historical memory, and that such groups have to bear testimony of their traumatizing experience in an indirect way. The authors conclude that the routine approach to commemorating political repressions needs to be reconsidered in order to work out a comprehensive memory politics, because as long as the above-mentioned groups remain deprived of the opportunity to theorize and to construct their own version of cultural trauma, it remains impossible to create a common national narrative that makes sense of the XX century repressions.

“Fighting Nation” – National Image of Russia in China
Abstract
The national image is a multidimensional and integral construction. In this study, using the method of quantitative analysis of Internet data, the image of the “fighting nation” of Russia in Chinese media communication is demonstrated indicating that “fighting nation” is a stereotypical image of Russia, especially this image is widely accepted by young people. From the position of communicative sociology, a multidimensional analysis of the reasons for the image marking of Russia as a “fighting nation” in the eyes of the Chinese is carried out, which will help to avoid stigmatization, as well as develop strategies aimed at dispelling people's misconceptions about specific nations and groups.

Legal Consciousness of Youth Students (on the example of the Tyumen city)
Abstract
Legal literacy is considered as a complex of cognitive, activity and motivational components of the consciousness of student youth. Data based on a questionnaire survey conducted in 2022 (N = 405). These results are compared with the data of the all-Russian survey "Legal Literacy of Russians" (2020), and supplemented by focus groups in the two largest universities in Tyumen. It was revealed that the students-respondents, in comparison with the population of Russia as a whole, have a more fully formed cognitive component and legal attitudes, but to a lesser extent - legal skills. Both among young and adult Russians, in certain situations, about half of the respondents consider breaking the law acceptable. The main institutions for the formation of legal literacy were the family and the education system, and to a lesser extent the media. Cluster analysis revealed six types of students with very different degrees of legal literacy. Types characterized by its high level accounted for only a quarter of the sample.

Russians’ Assessment of Demographic Policy Measures in the Field of Fertility
Abstract
This article presents a comparative analysis of the opinion of Russians on fertility issues for 2017 and 2022. In particular, the issues of the influence of the state on the number of children in families and the effectiveness of state support when families decide on the birth of a child (children) are considered. According to the results of the study, it was found that the level of expectation of assistance by the population from the state is quite high. At the same time, there is an increase in the proportion of respondents who consider any state influence on the number of children in families unacceptable. It was also found that state assistance measures do not have a great influence on the decision to have the first child, but their role increases with the growth of the birth order.
